Srey Deth is a 2nd year student and working part time with CSH team, which helps her gain confidence and develop her skills for later. She comes back on her cursus and how she decided to study graphic design.
- Can you introduce yourself ? And what is your major ?
Hello ! My name is Sorm Srey Deth. I’m 22 years old. I’m studying Graphic Design in year 2 at Royal University of Fine Arts. Nowadays, I live in Chandara Students Home dormitory in Phnom Penh.
- Why did you change from architecture to Graphic Design ?
Last year, I changed my major from Architecture to Graphic Design because I had some problems with the main subject of the Architecture program (Workshop class). This class is focused on math and I’m not good at it. I lost interest in that subject day by day. After that I decided to change my former major to Graphic Design because after I worked with Alexandra, I knew that I like arts that relate to graphics and I want to learn more about it. Finally, I found myself good at it and I really enjoy studying this major.
- What is your job with CSH and why is the thing you like the most about it?
At CSH, the first year, I’m working as Assistant Partnership Supervisor. I learnt how to manage to post the offers and internships on the Alumni website and wrote the article about the interview. In this position, I started to learn about the graphic for the poster. In the next 12 months, I'll start working as an Assistant Admin and Assistant Graphic Design. I love these jobs so much because I can figure out what I can do with my talent such as I can assist the admin to prepare invoices, contact the students, and communicate with the guests who come to visit our dorm. I had created the illustrations on the t-shirt according to the CSH event. Also, I had designed the posters, name card, ID card, games...etc.
- What does this job bring you in your professional and personal life ?
About this job, I have learnt new things that will be useful for me in the future. I gained many experiences and advice from the stuff around me. They always explain to me how to solve the problems and give good advice with their own experience.
After working with CSH, I built more confidence to speak out and get to know all the students in the dorm. The important thing is that I can be a part of CSH to help the students.
- What is your dream job ?
My dream job is to become a Graphic Designer. Also, I want to join a company in Cambodia that makes digital advertising like animated banners and social media.
- Where do you see yourself in 5 years ?
In 5 years, I hope to see myself become a professional graphic designer and a well-known person in the society.
- Do you have a sentence or personality that you particularly like ? Does that inspire you ?
My self-inspirational quote is “ Mistakes are lessons ”. It always inspire myself to work hard and never give up.
